"HarpSong ~ No?l" is a collection of 16 songs and carols of the Christmas season performed with flute and harp. The warm, fluid sounds of the two instruments provide a peaceful and soothing respite in a season that has become all too hectic. The lovely soprano voice of Karen Almquist can be heard on three of the tracks. Included in this recording is an arrangement of R. Vaughan Williams' "Fantasia on Greensleeves", a well-known and much-loved orchestral work, that has been arranged for flute and harp by Jennifer Grady and published by ALRY Publications in Charlotte, S.C. The less familiar "Suantrai na Maighdine" is a traditional Celtic lullaby. The air and words of this song were both written by Sean Og O Tuama. The Virgin sings a lullaby to her Child in the manger, and asks why the all-powerful Song of God has come to earth, poor and helpless. I have come to help poor sinners and, when I am crucified on high, they will turn to me. "Codail a leinbh go samh," sleep! soundly, my child.
