Dating back to his monumental recording, The Solitary Saxophone, also on BIS, he has clearly established himself as the musical ambassador for the saxophone and has garnered the respect of musicians worldwide. Noone can match his refinement and control, nor his uncanny sense of intonation and technique. He is the master of the instrument and few recordings can hold up to his artistry. This recording including rarely recorded pieces of the Schmitt and Caplet, is highlighted by simply stellar playing on the Ravel transcription.
