First things first, I picked this up on "Record Store Day" this past weekend, celebrating independent record stores, and this is a release specifically made for RSD. Please support your independent record stores!
"Live at Park Ave." (7 tracks; 37 min.) is a fantastic addition to Manchester Orchestra's most recent album "Mean Everything to Nothing", released last year, and which I totally love. This live release brings 6 of the songs from that album in a stripped-down version, recorded in June of 2009 at Orlando's Park Ave. and it's a completely new experience of hearing those songs, mostly Andy Hull and his acoustic guitar, with minimal assist from a couple other band members. (An older track, "Sleeper 1972" is also included.) Manchester Orchestra unplugged, and what a great listening experience. "Live at Park Ave." is highly recommended for any fan of the "Mean Everything to Nothing" album.
By chance, I caught Manchester Orchestra live here in Cincinnati earlier this week, fully plugged in, and delivering a blistering set, heavy on the "Mean Everything to Nothing" songs, just fantastic. These guys are truly road warriors, it's probably their 4th or 5th time coming to Cincinnati in the last 18 months or so.
