专辑简介

In case you’ve been living under a rock, it is our duty to inform you that Skin Collision Past, the new album from Houston’s beloved Wild Moccasins. After establishing itself as a bonafide presence in the Houston music scene, garnering a rabid fan base supported by an incredible work ethic and its initial EP, Microscopic Metronomes, the band is ready to unveil its first full length album. It’s a good one, too. We’ve been struggling for a while to really convey how this one makes us feel, and we keep getting stuck at happy. It’s impossible for us to listen to this collection of songs and not feel happy, and this isn’t because it happens to be a bright and shiny indie pop record. In fact, these songs tread darker waters than the Moccasins previous work, but between the shimmering guitars, the ping-ponging of Cody Swann & Zahira Gutierrez’s vocals and the solid rhythm section, we can’t help but feel that smile creep up on our face. Perhaps it’s because we’re just so proud of the Moccasins for doing things right – relentlessly working to get their songs heard around the country, and the resulting positive effect that has had upon their music and their live performance. We can recall seeing the Moccasins for the first time at the Microscopic Metronomes release, and while we could recognize the group’s potential we still didn’t understand all the hype. That changed when they got back from their following tour – they arrived home road tested, tighter onstage and undeniably captivating. And all of that shows in Skin Collision Past – the result of the band honing its craft via extensive touring, focused writing and working with a great producer – Sugar Hill’s John Griffin. This jaunty indie pop record hums along at a good clip, and it’ll have your head bobbing, hips swaying and toes tapping. These symptoms are practically unavoidable, unless you’re a serious curmudgeon. While the album may be built on Swann & Gutierrez’s voices and a wash of guitar work that shines like the sun on the sea, it’s also an album rife with details. Twists in the bass riffs, percussion hitches, synthesizer snippets, and extra flares on the guitar fill out the sonic landscape, taking the songs from good to really freaking good. This is the album we knew the Moccasins could make, and we’re happy that it is upon us. It’s just the next sign of a bright future for the band – a group that we know will continue to grow until it evolves into a mythical super-beast devouring everything – ok, whoa. Now we’re getting ahead of ourselves. Do yourself a favor and don’t sleep on this album, or the impending subsequent tunes / world domination from the Wild Moccasins.
