Fierce, transcendental noise-rock/punk. Razor-sharp distortion, with vocals that murmur one moment and shout in your face the next. Thick, slashing guitar, bass that bends, contorts and anchors, and up-front drums that shape and drive the whole affair. The lyrics are brilliantly enigmatic.
Tense and confrontational music which takes you to another plain altogether. It absorbs you fully in its noisy wash, while simulateneously elevating you to some other state of consciousness.
This album features some of the best engineering that Steve Albini has ever done. He captures the band's nuances beautifully. It's a raw but rich recording which eschews the flatness of some of his other engineering efforts for a loud, full-on sound. The ferociousness of the music benefits tremendously as a result.
Johnboy are an under(or simply un)recognised band who took punk and noise to their own extremes. 'Claim Dedications' is an obsure masterpiece - furious and sublime. You won't hear anything else like it.
