Mario Caroli is celebrated for his flexibility and skill in performing both the standard repertoire and modern music. Many eminent composers have dedicated their pieces to him including Ivan Fedele, Gy??rgy Kurt??g, Betsy Jolas, and Salvatore Sciarrino, who called him the "Paganini of the flute." Ensemble Algoritmo was formed in 2002 on the initiative of a group of young musicians particularly interested in playing twentieth century and contemporary music.
