Buffalo Benson and Buffalo Steve lived in Halls of Residence together in Manchester way back in the great year of 2001. In the flat nextdoor but one, lived a certain James T Cole (later to be known as Buffalo Rodney, due to his striking resemblence to Nicholas Lyndhurst). Steve had a friend called Buffalo Nigel. Buffalo Benson liked his little beard and asked him to go for a drink with him (It wasn’t a date though…just friends like). Buffalo Benson played the guitar and had stored in a little red book some songs about getting dumped. Buffalo Steve said he would like to play guitar at the same time as Buffalo Benson, thus creating a “duet”. Buffalo Rodney said he fancied playing bass to these songs, and pretty soon Buffalo Nigel got in on the act and said “D’ya know what boys? I shall rather like to play the drums with you to these songs”. With a little help from a Japanese guitarist a band had happened… The band did some gigs, but people didn’t really like them all that much… Then at the peak of their powers the Japanese man left to pursue a career in Carpentry in the mountains of Holland… The dream was over. Until one fine afternoon, the other four chaps (you will remember them as Buffalo Benson, Buffalo Steve, Buffalo Rodney and Buffalo Nigel) decided that they could probably still do this “Band Malarkey” as a four piece. So thats what they did. They got their little, cute arses into gear, stopped whinging about songs not being really “Band Songs” and began making music that was close to their hearts and ears. After a revolutionary technique in devising band names (they call it “The Names in the Hat” technique) its a buffalo were born. Lets just hope that a big fucking lion doesn’t come along and eat them in the desert.
