Tucson duo Blind Divine has released a three-CD box set, “Melancholia.”
The package includes 2005′s “Devouring the Beautiful” and this year’s “Music for Unmade Movies Vol. 1″ and “Desire to Destroy.”
Made up of artist-composer Daniel Martin Diaz and his wife, vocalist-designer Paula Catherine Valencia, the band describes its sound as “art music.” The pair’s “musical paintings” contain floating rhythms, ethereal vocals, haunting piano and guitars.
“It’s about the process of discovering the beauty in the layers of sound,” Valencia says in press materials. “When I write lyrics and melodies to Daniel’s pieces, I’m careful to record every note I sing. I capture how the song makes me feel at the moment.”
Adds Diaz: “Trying to create a visual picture, a mood, a moment in time without thinking about it too much is a challenge. I like to keep the instrumentation classic and organic. I play everything live and avoid sequencing.”
