专辑简介

The first thing you feel when you start to listen to this album is: what a poor sound quality. Not in vain this is a remastering of a cassette from 1982/83. But once you assimilate that, you (I) will be amazed by the quality of the music and the lyrics in this album. Well, maybe you won't if you already know this band, 'cos with this band, quantity is not vs quality, they both come together for the same price.
This was the first LPD cd I bought, and I love it. 30 songs, most of them amazing, just some average and not one bad. In my opinion. The Legendary Pink Dots contradict those peopl who say electronic music is cold. LPD are not 'only' electronic, they are a band that do not define themselves by the instruments they play, since they can play almost every instrument imaginable. They are LPD, a genre of their own. And this cd is very electronic, by the way.
The first cd is the best, I think, and contains 19 songs, 5 of them instrumental.
'The light in my little girl's eyes' is the first song by LPD I ever heard, but in another version. This sounds more primitive but very very good. Impressive lyrics, the music advances in crescendo until the explosive final lyrics, which are simply delightful. Is this a cannibalised lovestory? Very emotional singing. It's a great song, one of the best by Ka-spel and co.
'The Top' is a short piece, not groundbreaking but good.
'Neon gladiators' is very very electronic, not very emotional, rather cold in comparison with other Ka-spel songs, if you know what I mean. It's not bad but may tire you sometimes.
'Obsession' is an acoustic song, with delicious singing. THIS IS emotional. Ka-spel's voice makes me want to go to heaven. Very good.
'Hideous strenght' is funny, especially that line "all good kitten goes to heaven".
'The waiting game' is one of my favs. Good singing, good electronics, it seems as if the sound is better, I dunno why.
'Curse (the sequel' is a good song, but very weird. It starts with strange voices, I don't know if they're recorded backwards or they spek some strange language. It reminds me of a Skinny Puppy song ('Download'). The the melody begins, but everything sounds muffled, the voice much too acute, the beats and electronics rather low in the mix.
'She said' is a beautiful ballad. The lyrics are quite another thing. Very emotional and sensituive, LPD at their best.
'Film of the book' is an instrumental piece, electronic and catchy.
'Tower 1' is a pre-version from 'The Tower' album. Very long, very good, very electronic, very scary. Gooood. 'No-one has the key to the tower' anyway.
'Lullaby for Charles' brother' is that, an electronic lullaby, short, funny, good.
'Collapse' is a short instrumental piece, but 'Tower 2' is another gem. 'Glad he ate her' is a very short piece, quite rhythmical, and ends with a good verse that I may not be able to reproduce here or my review won't be accepted.
'Barbed obituary' is another short instrumental, and then begins 'Tower 3', quite military, voice controls all the songs, Ka-spel bgins singing but later he speaks as if he wanted to make his message clear. 'Expresso curfew' is instrumentl and good, a bit longer but not too much. 'Surprise surprise' is another good song, disturbing. 'The bride wore green' is an instrumental song I usually skip.
The disc 2 is maybe more experimental and less good. 'When the clock strikes 13' is a very good song divided into 2 parts, the first with voice, the second more instrumental and ambient. The same goes for 'Just passing over, lovey': good, various songs in one. 'Premonition 10' is a very ritual piece, instrumental, with ethereal voices. 'Grind' is also instrumental, nothing special here. 'Choke' seems an instrumental piece but no, it's not bad. 'The plasma twins' is a vampirical song, not one of my favs. 'Apocalypse soon' is the most techno-pop song LPD has made. It reminds me of bands such as OMD, Soft cell, etc, though with the typical LPD uniqueness. Rather danceabl and poppish. 'Apocalypse gone' is like an instrumental follow-up. 'Cherry lipstick' is a dark piece, maybe one of the darkest her, contrasts a lot with 'Apocaypse soon'. Good. 'It's raining...again' is a good instrumental, and 'The glory, the glory' is a perfect ending for a very good album. Very emotional song,"the statues they never die". A sad piece I absolutely adore.
To sum up, buy this album: don't be hesitant becasue of its poor sound quality as I was. The essence is there, and a very good essence indeed.
