Damn Bullets is a fairly recent four-piece from the prolific Little Rock, Arkansas scene. Although deeply rooted in delta-style, these twangy twenty-somethings transcend the bluesy southern norm with unorthodox psychedelic riffs and hip-shaking rhythms. This self-titled debut kicks off with a couple of swingin' tracks that are sure to have crowds dancing. Count My Bones makes it difficult to keep your foot from tapping. The album falls into a more acoustic, slightly less energetic mood by track four, Dirty Driving, then rolls like an old boxcar into a more bluegrass feel in Ain't Got No Home , featuring a most welcome banjo. Adds Up to One and I'm Still New exhibit the inescapable influences of The Beatles and Bob Dylan. The album reaches its crux, and definite single, on the thirteenth track Done Ya Wrong. Look for the music video on this one. Everything is nicely wrapped up with a politically charged, honky-tonk called Georgy Porgy trumpeting "their money, their war, we the people gonna pay no more." All in all, it's a delicious slice of the southern sound served up with apple fritters and a side of grits. 9 out of 10.
