Transfiguration, just like the recently-released Hyplar album, are signed to a French label and specialise in electronica. They are more cinematic in terms of their musical approach rather than the easy listening genre that Hyplar specialise in. 'Sandstorm' features an excellent vocal contribution from Roger Quigley who was half responsible for The Montgolfier Brothers' debut album which proved to be one of the most underrated highlights of 2000. The mood is dark and mysterious throughout with a breakbeat and strings combination being effectively chilling on 'Voyage Au Bout De La Nuit'. Excursions into acoustic guitar on 'Everglades' provide a welcome respite from the more formulaic filmic material on 'The Alpha Tapes'. One feels that Transfiguration could have done with more vocal contributions to add a bit more variety to the mix but generally this is very proficient albeit undemanding soundtrack music.
