It binds the story of the play together through the idea of an ethical will recorded by Rose as a legacy to pass from generation to generation. As the titles reveal, the nineteen lively original songs (plus four scene change selections) cover a range of emotions about Rose's life.
While the musical is about a Jewish family, the music describes Rose's experiences, family values, and legacies that could represent any family.
The music is written by Karen Sokolof Javitch with lyrics by Javitch and Joanie Jacobson. Musical arrangements for "From Generation to Generation" are by Chuck Penington of Mannheim Steamroller.
