Born in 1918, Hank Jones grew up in a household with some serious musical talent. Jones’ earliest influence was pianist Fats Waller. He also idolized Earl "Fatha" Hines and the great Teddy Wilson, but his greatest influence was the legendary Art Tatum. A consummate freelancer, Jones has worked with Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, Milt Jackson, and Julian Cannonball Adderly. His dynamic and diverse recordings reinterpret jazz in all of its varieties. The genetic makeup of sax and flute legend Frank Wess is pure jazz. Though best known for his years with Count Basie, he has also had stints with the Billy Eckstine Orchestra, Eddie Heywood, Lucky Millinder, and R&B star Bull Moose Jackson.
