出生于印度的英格柏·汉柏汀克本名Arnold George Dorsey，后随父移居英国。11岁时成为萨克斯风乐手，17岁因模仿Jerry Lee Lewis而声名大嗓，迅速在英国走红。六十年代初，他以一曲“Release Me”一炮而红，这是他第一首上榜56周而入选吉尼斯世界纪录的单曲。之后他连续推出了“The Last Waltz”、“Am I That EasyTo Forget"等家喻户晓，流传甚广的经典名曲。值得一提的是英格柏与甲壳虫乐队、滚石乐队和汤姆·琼斯等巨星一起开创了英国流行乐的鼎盛局面，曾先后为英国女王、多位总统和国家首脑演唱。英格柏灌录的作品无所不包，从浪漫曲到电影主题曲，舞曲、摇滚乐甚至福音音乐。他以醇美的噪音：独特的魅力及幽默的现场演出在乐坛数十年长盛不衰，赢得了百万歌迷的钟爱，被称为”情歌之王”。
