In the 1980s, new klezmer groups including The Klezmatics and Brave Old World wanted more than just to revive the traditions of the past but to once again create a "living tradition". They began to incorporate various styles, such as rock and roll, jazz, and even Latin music with age-old Jewish folk traditions.
