When Rachel Stamp formed in 1995, they not only created some of the most decadent, brilliantly off-kilter Rock n' Roll music to ever come out of the UK, they also inadvertently paved the way for the hundreds of eye-liner wearing, heart-on-your-sleeve bands that currently fill stadiums and magazines the world over. Fusing Black Sabbath style riffery with New Wave electronics and sporting an image that was half way between the New York Dolls and Nirvana, the band stood out a mile from the Blur and Oasis clones of the time. From the heavy riffage of 'Black Cherry' and 'Les Oceans de Venus' to the sweet acoustic delicacy of 'Stealing Clothes From Shelley Barratt' and the proto Electro-Pop of 'I Like Girlz' this collection is a testament to the band's originality and outright eccentricity, something often overlooked in the midst of the make-up and hysteria of the day.
