Harry Warren, born Salvatore Guaragna in 1893 in Brooklyn, N.Y., was the first major songwriter to write primarily for the movies. He won Oscars? at Warner Bros., Fox, and MGM. Warren had more hits and won more Academy Awards? than great contemporaries such as Irving Berlin, but it was his music, and the movies they were in, that became famous.
