The rebirth of Madness has been a surprisingly quiet affair. First, they crept back onto the scene with their reggae covers album, The Dangermen Sessions. And now The Liberty of Norton Folgate emerges to little or no fanfare. Much like their presence back on the scene (or thereabouts), Madness' new batch of mostly easy-going ska ditties won't immediately leap right out at you. Rather, these slyly catchy tunes will insinuate themselves into your brain. Frankly, I thought my first listen to this album would be my last. The next thing I knew, I was choosing to hear it again and again. And, with each run-through, a new great song emerges. Still, the epic-length title track remains the biggest draw here. Take heed, everyone: Madness are back!
