Pays tribute to Ikhwani Safaa, one of Zanzibar’s most storied taarab orchestras, which celebrated its centenary in 2005! Recently recorded with Taj Mahal (as the Zanzibar Culture Musical Club) on a new release. Swahili taarab music bears strong similarities to the classic Egyptian orchestras of the Umm Kulthum era, with influences from India and Africa. Ikhwani Safaa's violins, ud, quanun, nai, keyboards, bass, guitar and percussion make up a sound that swells like the ocean while their celebrated vocalists - including Maulidi Mohamed and Rukia Ramadhani - lead a selection of the club's favorite classic songs.
