Following the success of their debut album ‘Megalopolis’ in 2004, Studiodavoli return two years later with their new album entitled ‘Decibels for Dummies’. The album represents a short step by step guide to indie-pop in 13 tracks from Studiodavoli’s angle. The 13 pearls string together all their musical influences; from the psychedelic sound of Pink Floyd’s ‘Piper at the Gates of Dawn’ to the modern sound of Komeda and Broadcast, from the Beatle’s ‘Revolver’ to Moloko with a twist of Guther by Morr Music, Motorpsycho and Scandinavian pop.
Characterized by a laid-back atmosphere, ‘Decibels for Dummies’ abandons the cocktail lounge sound of Megalopolis and searches for a more intimate and reflexive sound topped with a good dose of soft psychedelia. ‘Kiss’, the first single taken from the album, is a good example of what Studiodavoli are today. The Davoli display yet again to have their ideas well organised by pulling together 12 short indie tracks in which the only thing that remains steadfast is the sexy and irresistable voice of MatildeDavoli which accompanies us throughout the whole record.
‘Decibles for Dummies’ was recorded and mixed in the relaxed setting of Stefano Manca’s Sudestudio. Surrounded by olive trees and vineyards in the Salentine countryside, it is a place musically closer to London rather than Melpignano. Populous (Morr Music – Berlin) who lives a few steps from the De Rubertis family, gave creative support to the ‘Decibels for Dummies’ mix.
