Following on the heels of his 'Ballad for Edvard Grieg' album, released this August, Leif Ove Andsnes returns again to the music and life of Edvard Grieg in this DVD documentary. To commemorate the 100th anniversary of Grieg’s death, Andsnes guides us through the ups and downs of the composer’s life, punctuating the narrative with performances of his works (including a breathtaking rendition of the 'Ballade in G Minor' atop the cliffs of Norway, and an intimate recital of the Lyric Pieces in Grieg’s home in Troldhaugen). Andsnes is generally considered to be Grieg’s finest interpreter, and to hear him talk about his fellow countryman sheds fascinating light on the composer, the music, and Andsnes himself.
