Measha Brueggergosman is an extraordinarily versatile 29-year-old Canadian soprano who has already won acclaim from the international press and numerous awards for her beautiful voice, often compared to the early Jessye Norman. Her singing has been described as having “an all-encompassing warmth and joy, melding honed artistry with youthful enthusiasm” (Washington Post), and she is also praised for her sparkling sense of humour. Brueggergosman’s warm personality is one of many the reasons that this exceptionally gifted entertainer hosts her own show, Toronto Sings, on Canadian national-TV and is regularly invited to participate in many media events
Although Brueggergosman successfully dedicates her career to classical music (i.e. opera and recital concerts), her interest in music and art is not limited to the classics, and she is attracted to all types of popular culture. Brueggergosman’s first recording for DG features an original selection of newly orchestrated songs by Grammy?- and Pulitzer prize-winning composer William Bolcom – all world-premiere recordings – as well as Schoenberg’s Brettl Lieder and songs by Satie. In several songs Measha will be accompanied on the piano by none other than William Bolcom himself, who considers her an ideal interpreter of his compositions and who spontaneously decided to participate in her first DG recording after hearing her sing
