This disc compiles choice cuts from the Benny Goodman Quartet and the Benny Goodman Trio. This is swing in its most elemental form-- much more free flowing and spontaneous than the big band style. On all tracks, the interplay between the musicians is amazing, and their rhythm is so tight that you will be amazed when you realize there is no bass. In addition to the great swinging tracks, there are some absolutely beautiful ballads, with Lionel Hampton on vibes providing a dreamy counterpoint to Goodman′s pure sounding clarinet. The sound throughout is crisp, and you can clearly hear all of the musicians. This is wonderful, happy music and a great choice for a sophisticated party.
