The three works for vocal ensembles recorded here are examples of an extreme form of vocal chamber music - an instrumental music for singers. Despite brevity these three choral works also captivate both through the unique sonic landscape they create and ironically, for vocal music, their essential independence from the texts being sung. This music does not take charge of its listeners intellectually. Instead, these vocal ornaments, ecstatic textures and sonic hurricanes stroke us and take hold of us, making us dizzy and throwing us back on ourselves. Only the second or third hearing permits a parallel reading of the texts and translations and thus a new stage in the apprehension of why we were at first so taken by surprise. This is intensely passionate, multi-dimensional music.
